The Diva Cooks A Goose

Of course I have to share my new trailer with you! Hope you enjoy. The Diva Cooks A Goose is available for pre-order and will be in stores on December 7th!

Saving Money On The Net

Sorry it has been so long since my last post. I'm hoping to be here a little bit more often as we roll into the holidays.

If you're like the rest of us and you're pinching pennies, I've got two hot links for you. I've been following them for a while and they really do offer some terrific deals!

Kaley at Chaching On A Shoestring spends her days looking for bargains, which means we get the benefit of her efforts! Sign up for her daily newsletter. It's chock full of links to find free stuff, not to mention all kinds of two-for-one deals. I love following Kaley and have already saved money!

It was through Kaley that I discovered Groupon. It's set up by city, but there are also on-line deals. They're harder to find because you have to search the cities (hey, Groupon, how about an on-line button for those of us who aren't in a big city?), but the deals can be terrific. Lots of bargains on restaurants and eating out, but there are also deals for Coldwater Creek and other national stores.

However, please beware of some of the pay-to-bid auction sites that seem to be to good to be true. If you have to pay to bid, proceed with extreme caution. Check out this article before you sign up.

Ebay is still on the up and up, though you do have to read the sales information carefully, and please take care not to fall for a low price but get hit with a huge shipping and handling fee!

Good Things Come in Plain Boxes

Sometimes I am an idiot. Hey! You didn't have to agree so fast. I'm going to blame my stupidity on a fondness for bling. There's a reason that manufacturers put so much money and effort into packaging -- to attract the attention of shoppers like me.

I was looking for crackers recently. Plain old Saltine type crackers that were organic. My eyes skipped right over the bland, recycled packaging of the Back to Nature products. In the end, I noticed it, and with some fear that the crackers would taste a lot like the brown cardboard boxes, I bought some to try.

They are fabulous!

You'll recognize the crackers they taste like from their appearance in the photo. I didn't do a blind taste test, but I can tell you I'm now a devotee. The graham crackers come in cute little rectangles that would be perfect for a toddler to hold, and they taste delicious.

Garlic Naan

I am totally in love with this Indian style bread I found at my local Kroger. I bought the garlic version, but it comes without garlic, too. Made by International Fabulous Flats, this Naan is preservative-free. It can be prepared on a pan, the grill, the oven or over an open flame on a gas stove. Talk about versatile! Ideal to take along on a camping trip.

I tried heating it on a pan (we're talking 2-3 minutes!), then used it to make a flatbread melt and a veggie roll. Worked ideally for both.

Later on, I tossed one on the grill (again for a couple of minutes), brushed it with a little bit of olive oil and everyone raved about it.

Grand Pops Best Kettle Corn

Before I hit the road to Malice Domestic, I stocked up on road trip food. Half the fun is getting there and munching on slightly sinful foods on the way is even better. Right?

I was eager to rip into this bag of Grand Pops Best Kettle Corn. Made in Richmond, Virginia, it contains no saturated fat, no cholesterol, and no trans fat. In fact, as healthy snacks go, this treat isn't too bad because popcorn is full of fiber and apparently considered a whole grain.

Now, I have to admit that I'm a sucker for foods that are both salty and sweet. I have, however, encountered popcorn that was so cloyingly sweet that it was almost heavy.

Grand Pop has the right idea. Just a hint of salt with an occasional burst of sweetness. In a word -- delicious!

One Touch Can Opener Revisited

Those of you who read The Diva Dishes regularly may recall that I was not a fan of the One Touch can opener. I thought it was a great idea, but the two I bought failed miserably and landed in the trash, which was tantamount to throwing out $40, which made me very unhappy. A friend (who obviously does not read this blog!) recently gave me a One Touch as a gift. It was very thoughtful, but I had memories of the old ones and was doubtful about it. Guess what -- they've improved it considerably, and it even opens the huge bulky pumpkin cans I use all the time. And now, to prove that it works, I offer --

Congratulations, One Touch. You recognized the shortcomings of your product and changed it for the better. And no sharp edges, either!

Spring Cookie Cutter Contest!

I heard the other day that 48 states had snow somewhere. It's been such a bitter winter, especially in the south where we're not used to living with snow covering everything. I guess it's not surprising then, that I'm already thinking about spring.

Over at Mystery Lovers' Kitchen, we're having a little contest for a collection of spring cookie cutters from Wilton. This adorable shamrock and nine Easter cookie cutters are the prize. I love these particular cookie cutters because they would be so easy to decorate. What fun you could have with the Easter egg and the duck!

Entering is easy. All you have to do is a leave a comment at Mystery Lovers' Kitchen! That's easy enough! And be sure to check back on March second when we announce the winner and launch our March contest!

And she's baaack!

Well, part time anyway. I'm not going to be blogging every day, or on a regular schedule even, but I will be posting here occasionally. I have some updates on products that I look forward to sharing with you.

I won't be posting recipes, though. If you haven't dropped by Mystery Lovers' Kitchen yet, come on by and join the fun. Loads of recipes and personal stories from six authors of culinary mysteries. I post there every Saturday, so that's where you'll find my latest recipes.

My third book, The Diva Paints the Town, was just released! Sophie, Natasha and the gang undertake the redecoration of an old mansion.

Sophie Winston could hardly turn down her deceased neighbor’s last request for a bequest party, but she had no idea that the crafty old man brought the guests together for a reason . . .

Like Sophie, I'm doing some redecorating at my website It's not finished yet, but I'm working on some fun new features for readers.

Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive and encouraging. I hope you continue to enjoy the Domestic Diva Mysteries!
